Charles Bonnet Syndrome can result from a wide range of eye diseases. This includes macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy and retinitis pigmentosa.
However, CBS can also be the consequence of other clinical conditions such as stroke and brain tumour when they affect the visual regions of the brain. Multiple sclerosis can also trigger CBS in instances when optic neuritis (swelling of the optic nerve) occurs.
CBS: Personal stories is a page devoted to the lived (perceptual) experiences of those living with CBS. If you would like your personal story (or that of someone close to you) shared, please contact the Foundation.
